[UPCOMING] Fable 5 one-time promo credits expire

The one-time Fable 5 credit that came with the July 20 restructure ($100 for Pro, $100 per standard Team seat, capped $2,500 per org) expires September 17, 2026 at 23:59 PT · 60 days after the promotion began, regardless of when it was claimed.

The window to claim the credit has already closed: it ran to August 2, 2026 at 23:59 PT. Only the expiry is still ahead. Unspent credit is lost on expiry, so anyone holding a claimed credit has until September 17 to spend it and nobody can obtain a new one.

September 13 is the final day of the temporary +50% weekly limits promotion that has run on Claude Code since May 13 and been extended repeatedly through the summer.

From September 14 it is replaced by a permanent 25% rise in standard weekly limits for Pro, Max, Team and seat-based Enterprise plans.

Anthropic put the net effect at a 17% reduction against the limits in force during the promotion.

Around 20:00 UTC on September 4, both usage counters went back to zero for subscribers across plans, with no announcement: nothing from Anthropic's developer account, nothing on the status page, nothing in the Claude Code changelog. The first reports appeared on r/ClaudeCode at 20:07 UTC and on r/ClaudeAI four minutes later, describing five-hour and weekly allowances refilled mid-cycle.

Not everyone reports receiving it, so the reach is inferred from those reports rather than stated. It is the second flush in four days, after the September 1 reset that came with the Fable 5.1 launch, and it follows two days of major capacity incidents on September 2 and 3.

Anthropic reset both the 5-hour and the weekly usage counters for every user on September 1, announced alongside the launch of Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1. It is the first all-users flush since July 16 and it lands twelve days before the +50% Claude Code weekly boost is due to give way to the permanent, 17%-lower baseline on September 14.

Anthropic announced on August 29 that the +50% Claude Code weekly limits promotion, which the help centre still showed ending August 31, will instead stay in place until September 13.

From September 14 standard weekly limits rise permanently by 25% for Pro, Max, Team and seat-based Enterprise plans, replacing the temporary boost rather than extending it.

Anthropic said in the same thread that this works out to a 17% reduction compared with today's limits, and that it is working on changes giving users more visibility and control over their usage.

The 50% higher Claude Code weekly limits (running since May 13) are scheduled to end August 19 after two extensions. If it holds, effective weekly headroom in Claude Code drops by a third back to standard. The two previous end dates (July 13, July 19) both moved, so watch for another extension.

A projection about an announced date, not a new date of our own.

The +50% Claude Code weekly limits have been scheduled to end twice already, on July 13 and on July 19. Both times the deadline moved instead of landing, and both times the extension arrived within days of the cliff.

That is the entire basis for this call, and it is a thin one: two of two. It is enough to lean, not enough to forecast. A seasonal promo with a fixed calendar end behaved differently · the holiday boost lapsed on January 1 exactly as announced.

What would change the read: an explicit statement that this is the final extension, or the deadline passing quietly without an announcement in the days before August 19. We are watching for both.

If the limits do drop on August 19, we grade this a miss.

Anthropic extended the +50% Claude Code weekly limit promotion from August 19 to August 31, 2026 for Pro, Max, Team and legacy seat-based Enterprise users, and the support article now reads "From May 13, 2026 through August 31, 2026, your weekly usage limit in Claude Code is 50% higher." Announcing it, @ClaudeDevs said Anthropic hopes to make the increase permanent but that strong demand for its models means capacity may be tight over the coming weeks.

Doubled Cowork usage limits ended as scheduled, the first cliff this summer that did not move

The doubled Cowork usage limits that shipped with the web and mobile beta ran through August 5, per the announcement, and ended on the announced date. Cowork usage counts against standard limits again.

This is the first promo deadline this summer that landed rather than moved. The two Claude Code weekly deadlines, July 13 and July 19, were both extended within days of the cliff, and the Fable 5 access window was extended twice.

What we can and cannot say: no end was ever announced, so the resolution rests on the absence of any extension. The primary announcement still reads 'through August 5' with no update, and official channels were swept daily from August 6 to August 17 with no extension found. That is strong evidence the promo lapsed on schedule and no evidence at all about what the post-promo Cowork allowance actually is.

[PROJECTED] Next goodwill flush projected for the first week of August

A projection, not an announcement.

Counter-reset flushes ran on April 23, May 15, June 1, June 19, July 1, July 9 and July 16 · gaps of 22, 17, 18, 12, 8 and 7 days, a clearly contracting cadence.

That contraction has now broken. Extrapolating it predicted a flush around July 24 or 25, and none arrived. We are recording that miss rather than quietly re-fitting the line.

Conditioning instead on the 12 quiet days since July 16, only the three longer historical gaps (17, 18 and 22 days) remain possible, which puts the next flush between August 2 and August 7. Confidence is moderate, not high: six intervals is a thin sample, and the July 20 plan restructure may have removed the reason these flushes happened at all.

Three things corroborate the window. A capacity-incident cluster ran from July 25 and was still going on July 27, and sustained rough stretches, not single bad days, preceded the April 23, June 1 and June 19 flushes. Opus 5 became the Max default on July 24 with no limit adjustment attached, which raises consumption pressure. And the doubled Cowork limits are scheduled to end August 5, inside the window.

One thing argues against it: the July 17 and July 20 credit-billing incidents drew no flush, where three earlier incidents each did within days.

If a flush lands before August 2 we will grade this a miss and say so.

Graded a miss on August 17. No flush arrived inside the August 2 to 7 window, and none has arrived since. The gap now stands at 32 days from July 16, longer than every interval this projection was fitted to, including the 22-day maximum, so the method has no remaining support rather than a window that was slightly off. The rule stated above only anticipated the opposite failure, a flush landing early, and we are leaving that wording visible rather than tidying it away.

What the accumulated evidence turned out to be worth: the capacity-incident cluster ran for a month and a critical-impact outage landed on August 16, so the corroborating conditions held and the flush still did not follow. That breaks the link this projection rested on. Whether the compensatory flush survived the July 20 plan restructure at all is now the open question, and it is the one a successor projection would have to answer.

On the July 20 changeover day, some Claude Code users on Max plans were incorrectly prompted to spend usage credits to access Fable 5, which is included in their plan. Anthropic's status page opened the incident at 07:35 UTC and resolved it at 15:35 UTC; affected users had to restart Claude Code to clear the prompt. Minor impact, Claude Code only.
The extension cycle ends with a tier split. From July 20: Fable 5 is permanently included in Max and Team Premium plans at 50% of limits; Pro and Team Standard use usage credits ($10 per million input tokens, $50 per million output) and receive a one-time $100 credit.

Anthropic says it aims to restore broader inclusion "when sufficient capacity allows", no timeline. Note the effective Fable allotment is lower than during the promo, since 50% now applies to standard limits. Confirmed in effect: on July 20 a Claude Code status incident recorded Max users being wrongly prompted to spend credits for Fable 5 (included in their plan), a changeover-day glitch that placed the restructure live.

Anthropic reset usage limits for all subscribers as compensation for three engineering missteps that degraded Claude Code (a March 4 reasoning-effort downgrade, a March 26 session-clearing bug, and an April 16 verbosity prompt), documented in an official postmortem which states that usage limits were reset for all subscribers as of April 23. The earliest documented all-subscriber counter flush, announced the same day it took effect.

Date is press-coverage date (The Register Mar 26); exact effective date unverified.

When the holiday 2x promo lapsed Dec 31, users reported rapid token depletion in early January; one developer's token-level log analysis claimed a ~60% reduction vs baseline. Anthropic dismissed reduction claims as unfounded, attributing perceptions to the expiring bonus. The boost-end itself was pre-announced (published end date); the disputed part is whether baseline limits also dropped.
